2013 Annual Letter from Bill Gates

2013 Annual Letter from Bill Gates
Dear Grantees,

Today, Bill Gates published his fifth Annual Letter. I wanted to share Bill's letter with you, which this year focuses on measurement. It’s a theme which is very relevant to our work together and I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the letter.

In the last 15 years, we have seen the number of people living in extreme poverty reduced by half. We know that this extraordinary progress is owed to the world’s resolve to define clear goals and the right measures necessary to drive progress toward those goals. At the foundation, we’re optimistic that the time and investment we place on defining and measuring goals helps us achieve greater progress on behalf of the people we jointly serve.

I have worked with Bill for a long time, and I am continually motivated by his drive to get better results. In his letter, Bill writes, “The process I have been describing—setting clear goals, picking the right approach, and then measuring results to get feedback and refine the approach constantly—helps us to deliver tools and services to everybody who will benefit.” I invite you to read Bill’s Annual Letter and share it with your own networks. You can also follow the conversation on Twitter using #billsletter and contribute to the My Hope for 2030 campaign on Facebook where Bill is encouraging people to share their goals for improving the world for our next generation.

On behalf of Bill, Melinda, and the foundation, I thank you for your partnership and all you do in support of our shared mission.

Sincerely,
Jeff Raikes
